Where a sideboard earns its place

In an HDB flat, a sideboard does a lot of quiet work. In the dining area it holds crockery, table linen and serving dishes; in the living room it takes the overflow of books, games and chargers; by the door it becomes a landing spot for keys, post and bags. Our cabinets are around 40 cm deep and close to counter height, so the top works as a serving or display surface.

As a rule of thumb, leave enough room in front for doors to swing open and people to pass, around 90 cm if dining chairs back onto it. Measure the wall too, and allow a little space at each end so the piece sits comfortably rather than squeezed in.

Veneer, lacquer and stone

Walnut and ash veneers give real wood grain over a stable core, which holds its shape well as Singapore's humidity rises and falls. Piano-gloss lacquer and painted finishes bring a smooth, polished face, and some designs add a stone top. Bases range from matching veneer stands to slim carbon and stainless steel legs.

Using a sideboard by the front door

These are sideboards rather than purpose-built shoe cabinets, so they're designed for general storage rather than as ventilated shoe racks. If you use one in the entryway for shoes, let them dry fully before putting them away, keep a moisture absorber inside, and open the doors now and then so damp doesn't linger. Our entryway storage guide explains what to look for.

Care and delivery

Dust veneer along the grain with a soft cloth, wipe gloss finishes with a slightly damp cloth and dry them, and avoid abrasive cleaners on any surface. Each cabinet is built to order, direct from the factory, and arrives in about 30–35 business days, delivered and installed by our team. Delivery is free on orders over $600, and there's a 2-year warranty against manufacturing defects.

Sideboards & Cabinets: common questions

What's the difference between a sideboard and a console cabinet?
The names overlap. A sideboard traditionally lives in the dining area for crockery and serving, while a console or side cabinet sits in a living room or entryway; at around 40 cm deep, ours work in any of those spots.
Can I use a sideboard as a shoe cabinet?
You can, but these are sideboards rather than ventilated shoe cabinets. Let shoes dry before storing them and keep a moisture absorber inside to avoid odour and mould in Singapore's humidity.
How deep should a sideboard be for an HDB flat?
Around 40 cm suits most HDB dining areas and foyers: deep enough for plates and serving dishes, slim enough to keep the walkway clear. Our cabinets are built close to that depth.
Are your cabinets solid wood?
Most use walnut or ash veneer, lacquer or paint over an engineered or plywood core, which stays stable in humid weather; a few have solid wood frames. Each product page lists the exact materials.
How long does cabinet delivery take?
About 30–35 business days from your order, as every cabinet is built to order. Our team delivers and installs it, and delivery is free on orders over $600.
